On June 23-24 living history portrayers of the ACW Confederate Marine Brigade will hold a two-day encampment for the public on the Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park visitor center grounds. Programs are scheduled from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.

Learn about this small but elite force and its role in American Civil War history, which made its last stand at the Battle of Little Sailor's Creek in April 1865. Distinctive small arms drills and firing demonstrations, marine uniforms and equipment dis-plays, camp life interpretations, and more, make up the venue for this unique event.

The encampment and its programs are free to the public; however, donations to the Friends of Sailor's Creek are welcomed to help support future educational programs at the park.

Bring a portable chair and sun screen to comfortably view the programs on either day.

This event, which is the 17th in the park's ACW History Education Series for 2012, is weather dependent. Program times each day may be altered or modified, as a result.

The purpose of Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is to preserve the cultural landscape as it was in 1865, to pro-vide the historic setting to tell the story of the last major battle of the Civil War in Virginia before the surrender of Robert E. Lee's Army at Appomattox Courthouse, and to describe its impact on the citizens of Southside Virginia.
