The Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners are sponsoring a Pumpkin Carving Workshop on Saturday, October 26, from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Prince Edward Extension Office. The workshop is limited to 20 participants, ages 5-12. Call the extension office, (434) 392-4246 to reserve a place. A parent must accompany each child. There will be a charge of $5 to cover the cost of a pumpkin.

The workshop will have four aspects. Joyce Keith will explain “How Pumkins Grow”. This will be followed by a tour of the extension services fall garden. Each child will carve a Jack-O-Lantern to take home. There will be many pumkin foods, entrees, soups, sides and sweets, to sample with recipes to take home. Each pumpkin carver will also take home seeds from his pumpkin so he can roast them for snacks or grow his own pumpkins next year.
