Downtown Film Series is pleased to open the sixteenth Season of Stars Under the Stars with the King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret light up the screen in the 1964 comedy musical, Viva Las Vegas.
Presley plays racecar driver Lucky Jackson, who arrives in Las Vegas for a Grand Prix race but soon loses the money he raised to buy an engine when he meets the lovely Rusty Martin (Ann-Margret). Now Lucky has to earn more money working as a waiter and entering a talent contest, all while trying to romance Rusty. And to throw a wrench in Lucky's plans, a rival race driver is also on the scene to not only win the race, but also the affections of Rusty. Some lively song and dance numbers will no doubt help Lucky's cause!
The on-screen chemistry that Elvis and Ann-Margret shared filming this movie is legendary, and now is your chance to see it again on the big screen. The presentation will begin at dusk at the Downtown Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville. In the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk.
Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house. Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. Please note there is a “no pets” policy. The next film in the series will be Roman Holiday featuring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn on July 12.
