School Of The Soldier At Sailor's Creek
Published 5:11 pm Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Have you ever wondered what it was like to go from being an ordinary citizen through the abrupt change to American Civil War military life after taking the oath of enlistment?
If so, you have a chance to experience a small taste of it at Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 1-3 p.m. at the Visitor Center.
Learn and experience the initial transition steps from oath taking, to equipment issue, to close order drill, to rifle musket drill, all under the watchful eye of a tough drill sergeant who has the task of making you an effective soldier as soon as possible.
When it is all over, take home a certificate of Honorable Discharge to prove your service to your country.
This program is open free to the public from ages 8 and up.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. This event is weather dependent and will be rescheduled in the spring of 2013, if necessary.
