Holiday Open House At Appomattox NHP
Published 4:36 pm Thursday, November 29, 2012
The staff and volunteers of Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and Eastern National, the park bookstore, are pleased to invite everyone to the 2012 Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be refreshments, music, and ornament making for kids. The day is free for all ages.
The village will be decorated with fresh greenery and handmade wreaths thanks to the Appomattox Garden Club. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Shakygrass Band, from noon – 2 p.m., and a Longwood University brass quartet from 2 – 4 p.m. There will be a children's craft station, where old-fashioned Christmas ornaments will be made to take home. The Visitor Center will be the stop for hot cider, coffee, and homemade refreshments.
This year the park is also pleased to partner with the Women's Club of Appomattox, as part of their annual Holiday Homes Tour. The McLean House, site of the Lee and Grant surrender meeting, will be a stop on the tour. The old home, simply decorated with live greenery and handmade ornaments will offer a glimpse back in time to 1860s Virginia when families celebrated a simple, Civil War Christmas. Please join us for this festive occasion.
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located on Highway 24, three miles from Appomattox. The park is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance fees are waived for the event. Specific questions about the event should be directed to visitor center staff at 434-352-8987 ext. 226.
