Published 4:10 pm Thursday, September 13, 2012
A Virginia Egg Council recipe contest, “Tasty Little Devils,” will be at the Five County Fair on September 17. First, second, and third place winners will compete in the state finals for the following prizes: first – $375 and a year's supply of Eggland's Eggs; second – $250 and six month's supply of Eggland's Eggs; third – $125 and six month's supply of Eggland's Eggs. Entries must be taken to the Brickert Bldg. on the Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 17.
The entrant must prepare a recipe based on deviled eggs. Participants must use a minimum of six large eggs in their recipes, but contest entries can be part of another dish, such as a casserole. Mary Rapoport, of the Egg Council, said contestants can deviate from the usual definition of what a deviled egg is and that they can be creative.
A written recipe must be submitted with the entry, printed on one side of the page with ingredients listed in order of use. Preparation instructions, as well as cooking time and temperature must be included.
Judging will be based on flavor, texture, and appropriateness of ingredients for recipe, creativity, appearance, and recipe requirements fulfilled.
