Partial Trail Closure At Appomattox NHP
Published 4:22 pm Tuesday, August 14, 2012
Recent storms have resulted in damaged trees on the History Trail. The History Trail is 4.5 miles long and runs from Lee's Headquarters, crosses River Ridge Road to the North Carolina Monument, entirely south of Highway 24. The park has closed a section of the trail because of hazardous tree conditions. Until further notice, a one-mile section of trail from the River Ridge Road heading west to the crossing of Plain Run has been closed. Other sections of the trail including the North Carolina loop and the Lee's Headquarters loop are still open to the public.
Appomattox Court House NHP is located along Highway 24, three miles east of U.S. 460 and the modern town of Appomattox. The historic village is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the trail is open from sunrise to sunset. Specific questions about this closure should be directed to Brian Eick at 434-352-8987 ext. 228.
