Jelly Making Workshop

Eight youth from Prince Edward and Buckingham Counties recently learned to make cranberry-cider jelly in a workshop held at the Prince Edward Extension Office. Here Joe and Tyler Kingsley work to fill their jars and get them ready to go in the canner. This workshop was the latest in a series of youth canning programs sponsored in part by a grant from the Virginia Association of Extension 4-H agents. Extension agents in the two counties have also offered strawberry jam and salsa making classes. The grant also provided funding for an applesauce workshop held at the Prince Edward Community Cannery. Youth participating in the series have learned about food safety, food preservation, and the benefits of buying and eating locally grown foods.
