The Downtown Film Series committee announces Season 14 of the award-winning Stars Under The Stars.
Since 1997, the Series has brought 38 timeless motion pictures back to the big screen for the Farmville and surrounding communities. Spanning all film eras and genres, the movies are presented in the grassy outdoor venue of the Downtown Crute Stage and have included classics such as Rear Window, Casablanca, Singing In The Rain, Rebel Without A Cause, and many more.
To honor Elizabeth Taylor, the Film Series will launch their season on June 10 with the presentation of Father of the Bride (not rated) starring Taylor and Spencer Tracy. On July 8, Dick Van Dyke stars as a wacky inventor who creates an astounding car with some not-so-standard features in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (rated G). You may have seen the Coen Brothers' remake of our final film last year in the theaters, but now is your chance to see the original on the big screen. On August 12, John Wayne will show what it is to have True Grit (rated PG) as he helps a young girl track down the man who killed her father.
Major sponsors for this year's film series include Central Virginia Regional Library, Putney Mechanical, Caryn's Bridals, and Crystal Image Photography. Donations provided by Pepsi and Barnes & Noble @ Longwood. Special thanks to the Farmville Herald, and the Town of Farmville.
Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house. Please note there is a no pets policy.
Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for sale. In the event of rain, films will be shown the following evening. Programs begin at dusk, so be sure to bring lawn chairs or blankets. For more information on the series, visit: www.facebook.com/starsunderthestars
