A Runway Rehabilitation and Lighting Project at the Farmville Regional Airport is in its final stages, according to Farmville Interim Town Manager Dr. C. Scott Davis. 

“The only major items left on this project are for some grading and seeding to occur in the spring,” Davis said.

The last time the airport’s runway was paved was in 1991.

In August 2019, the Town of Farmville was awarded a grant from the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for $3,437,861 to fund the project.

This funding was granted through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), a program that provides grants for the planning and development of public-use airports that are significant to national air transportation.

In May 2019, the Farmville Regional Airport was also awarded a $3.5 million grant from the FAA to improve its access entrance and to provide more space for public parking and for airplane storage.

According to Davis, this project is currently in the design phase, with construction anticipated to start in the early part of July.

The Access Road Relocation and Parking Project will relocate the entrance to the airport, shifting it closer to the Farmville Municipal Golf Course and making more room for public parking and to build additional T-hangers and facilities used to store airplanes.
