There will be a benefit spaghetti lunch, blind auction, door prizes and local vendor event Saturday from noon-3 p.m. at the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department located at 30 Firehouse Road, Cumberland. If the event should be rescheduled due to inclement weather the date will be Sunday Feb. 10 same time and place. This event is for offsetting funeral expenses and medical bills for 15-year-old William (Bubba) Bowles of Cartersville who recently passed away. Any funds left over from proceeds resulting from this event will go towards a scholarship in Bubba’s memory as family has requested. The lunch will include spaghetti, salad, roll and beverage for a donation. You may eat in or take out. All checks can be made payable to The William (Bubba) Bowles Memorial Fund and note donations may be dropped off at any C & F Bank branch. This event is being sponsored by family and friends. Visiting in the home of James and Virginia Boyles of Cumberland on Sunday afternoon Jan. 27 were Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland and Annie May Miles of Dillwyn.

Something exciting is going to happen in 2019, but you better hurry because time is running out. The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization, is sponsoring a three day two night trip to Lancaster Pennsylvania on Tuesday April 2-4. The trip to include round trip motorcoach transportation, two nights lodging, two deluxe continental breakfasts, two dinners, a two-hour farmland tour, time for shopping and the show “Jesus”, at sight and sound Theater. Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee cordially welcomes all citizens of Cumberland County and surrounding counties to a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc., a non-profit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding counties in helping people in their hour of need, will be hosting their annual Valentine’s Banquet on Saturday evening Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church Dillwyn. Dinner to include pork roast and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and beverage all for a donation. You may eat in or take out. Dinner music will be provided by pianoist Cody Moss.
