Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church located at 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland proudly presents Southern Gospel Music at its best featuring “Smokey Wilson” of Concord on Saturday at 5 p.m. Pastor Barry Vassar and the entire congregation welcomes all to attend.

Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee will have a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. The next meeting will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association a nonprofit organization will be hosting its regular monthly meeting on Monday at 5 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church located at U.S. 15 North of Dillwyn on 3932 Bell Road. All members are asked to bring a covered dish for the meal, the September program with Pastor Tommy Armstrong of Cedar Baptist Church will follow. Welcome all to the 12th Annual Fellowship Gospel Singing featuring Smokey Wilson and Mark Bishop. The singing will take place at Becky and Linda’s Powell’s Home on Friday, Sept. 14 from 5-9 p.m. located 460 Holland Road, Farmville. Food and drinks will be provided. All you will need is a chair and a desire for a blessing. Donations are accepted and appreciated. Come and join us for a time of uplifting, praise and fellowship with friends and family. Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland will be hosting a free luncheon and devotional speaker each month from noon-1 p.m. The next scheduled event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 with guest speaker the Rev. Helen Cannon speaking on the topic “The Quest for Wisdom” Various churches and individuals in the community provide the meals each month.

The Cumberland Community Christmas Mother program is in need of items and volunteers for the 2018 distribution season. In addition to staffing, the following items are needed: new board games (Monopoly, Operation, Trouble, etc.), new socks and clothing items. Donations of new items can be dropped off at Cumberland Social Services Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. located at 71 Community Center Drive, Cumberland. Financial contributions (checks) can be made payable to Cumberland Community Christmas Mother and sent to P.O. Box 33, Cumberland, Virginia 23040. Those interested in volunteering can contact Debbie Kennel at (804) 980-5022 or Barbara Daniels at (804) 986-5852. Volunteers are needed for setting up and resetting the shopping rooms as well with assisting shoppers with making selections.

Virgil Chick of Cumberland visited in the home of Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland on Monday Sept. 3. A nice visited was noted.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Diane Green of Cumberland, Betty Jo Lesueur of Dillwyn and Tammy Gough of Wingina all on Sunday Sept. 9, Shirley Waycaster of Dillwyn on Monday Sept. 10, Terry Sprouse of Dillwyn on Tuesday Sept. 11 and Christin Midkiff of Cumberland on Wednesday Sept. 12.

Our sympathy is extended to the Kirby family of Dillwyn. Dorothy Beasley Kirby of Dillwyn went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday Aug. 28. She will be greatly remembered for her love for the Lord, family, friends and neighbors. She was a very caring person.

T. J. Waycaster and son Jacksyn of Powhatan visited in the home of Annie May Miles of Dillwyn on Saturday, Sept. 1.

A special happy anniversary wish goes out this week to Pastor Terry and Pam Tolliver of Dillwyn on Monday, Sept. 10.

A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.
