Landfill awareness meeting

Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee will have a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue, Sunday at 2 p.m. at the community center, located at 45 South and Davenport Road. Visiting in the home of Annie May Miles of Dillwyn last Saturday was Stephanie, CeCe and Jacksyn Waycaster all of Powhatan.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to the following people. CeCe Waycaster of Powhatan who will be 7 years old Sunday and Jane Cooke of Cumberland Wednesday, Aug. 15. Belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Marion B. Scott of Dillwyn, Thursday, Aug. 2.

Spreading God’s Gifts, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding counties in helping people in their hour of need, will be hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner and concert Saturday at 5 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 393 Winfrey Inez Road, Dillwyn. Dinner to include homemade spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage all for a donation. You may eat in or take out.

At 6 p.m., Southern Gospel and Bluegrass Gospel music at its best to feature “The Old Time Gospel Singers of Crewe.” “Worm Patterson and All Problems Solved of Buckingham” and Trio featuring Nancy Fairchild, Paula Dinsmore, and Jerry Moneymaker of Welcome Wesleyan Church of New Canton. A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

The 2018 annual former Craddock Terry Shoe Factory breakfast meeting will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Teresa’s Place located at 15055 North James Madison Highway, Dillwyn next to Sprouses Corner. All former employees and their guest are welcome to attend and plan to pay for their own meal.
