Jones Chapel Baptist Church located 953 Trents Mill Road, Cumberland, will be hosting its annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. The day will begin with yard sales from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. there will be blowups, a bounce house, games, free hotdogs, drinks and other activities for the children. Door prizes will also be available. CVS Pharmacy will also be on hand to give flu shots in the church fellowship hall and you are reminded to bring your insurance card.

Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will be hosting its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland. The purpose of this meeting is to inform Cumberland County residents and surrounding counties with updated information as to why this Mega Landfill will be detrimental to everyone. All are welcome.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Courtroom.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving banquet on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall located on U.S. Route 60 at 14405 West James Anderson Highway, Buckingham. All members and their guests are welcome to attend and asked to bring a covered dish with the meats and drinks furnished by the association. Following this will be door prizes and Bluegrass Gospel Music at its best featuring True Spirit of Richmond. Victory Baptist Church located at 4339 Salem Road, Spout Springs will be hosting its third annual homecoming services on Sunday, Oct. 20. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. followed by morning worship at 10:30 a.m. with special music from the Victory Baptist Church Choir and also a brief history of the church followed by the morning message from Pastor Jeff Worley. This will be followed by lunch at the Woodman of The World building located at 318 Harrell St., Appomattox. The 2019 annual Byrd Family Reunion was held on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Fries. A nice crowd attended. Attending locally were Larry and Mericia Boyles of Dillwyn and Virginia Boyles of Cumberland. A nice time was had by all.

Buckingham Baptist Church located 24234 North James Madison Highway, Gold Hill area of New Canton, will be hosting its annual Brunswick stew on Saturday, Nov. 9, with stew being available for pickup at 1 p.m. Proceeds from this event will be used to offset the Christmas Cantata program.
