Alpaca’s eat grass and make a sweater – what’s your superpower?
BrightEyes Alpaca Retreat held an open barn event this past Saturday allowing visitors the opportunity to tour the farm, learn about the alpacas, meet the three newest ones and see the products they produce from the alpaca fiber.
BrightEyes Alpaca Retreat is a seven-acre farm located outside the town of Farmville and according to owner Cindy Bergen the farm currently owns 10 adult female alpacas and three babies.
“We are an alpaca farm set up as an agritourist facility that hosts groups and organizations seeking a different type of educational experience,” said Bergen. “We are continually updating our educational opportunities for schools, groups and organizations that are looking for a unique farm and animal experience.”
This year’s open barn event was held in conjunction with National Alpaca Farm Day and was funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation, celebrating 50 years of Love.
