Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee welcomes all citizens of Cumberland County and surrounding counties to a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. Com, Facebook page or email NoMegaLandfill@ The next meeting will be Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 south and Davenport Road.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County courtroom.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to the following people: Dorothy Shumaker of Dillwyn and the Rev. Gene Johnson of Buckingham both having birthdays on Friday, June 14, Peggy Bickford of New Canton on Monday, June 17, and Eileen Reynolds of Buckingham on Tuesday June, 18.

Visiting in the home of Ralph and Fern Dunnavant of Dillwyn a few days this week was her son Jody Fyre of Arizona. A nice time was had.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a one day bus trip on Thursday, Aug. 1, to The Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre (WHDT) in Wytheville, to the show called “A Country Gospel.” WHDT will present a version of “good ole” country gospel. The production will feature favorite songs that we grew up singing from spiritual, happy, hand-clapping numbers to sweet beautiful inspirational hymns played by its own talented musicians. Come and join in this opportunity to praise the Lord. Pickup will be Food Lion in Dillwyn, Farmers Bank parking lot Appomattox and Walmart parking lot in Lynchburg. Only three seats remaining.
