Claude Andrew Morris Sr.

Claude Andrew Morris, Sr., 91, of Dillwyn, died July 6, 2017. He was born January 27, 1926 in Andersonville, a son of the late Lacy Earl and Dorothy Senger Morris.
Claude was an avid farmer; he loved his life and his family. He served his country during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He was member of the 95th Victory Division 378th Infantry. While serving as an anti-tank gunner, he had numerous commendations, including the Battle for Northern France and the Battle for Central Germany, remembered by many as the “Battle of the Bulge.” Even though wounded in action at the Remagen Bridge he remained on the front line. He was very proud to serve his country.
After returning to civilian life, he married the love of his life; operated the family farm and construction company and faithfully served the local citizens as the Chairman of the Buckingham County School Board.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Shirley Carwile Morris; four children, Claude A. Morris, Jr. and wife, Lucy, Shirley Jean Baker and husband, Steve, Michael E. Morris and wife, Cindy and Timothy E. Morris and wife, Pam; sister, Helen M. Chappell; sister-in-law, Kathryn Morris; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brother, Earl Morris and sister, Elsie Kidd.
Funeral services were held July 9, 2017 at Concord Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with military honors.
