Merle Carpenter Pairet

FEBRUARY 10 — Merle Carpenter Pairet, of Farmville, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was born in Rutherford County, NC to the late Emmanuel M. “Jack” and Inez Morrow Carpenter; but, she had lived for many years in Virginia. She loved her family and made family the center of her world.

While her children were growing up, she was employed as a bookkeeper, first in the Crewe area, and then in Farmville. The latter part of her working years, just prior to retirement, were spent at Hampden-Sydney College as Head of Housekeeping. In her retirement years she enjoyed working in her yard and raising her flowers. She especially enjoyed trips to Florida with her husband, Edwin M. “Sonny” Pairet, and accompanied him on many fishing trips in Florida and closer to home.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin M. “Sonny” Pairet; a son, C. Hicksie Wells (Lisa) of Rice; a daughter, Lynn W. Estes (Howard) of Farmville; a stepson, Tommy Pairet (Penny) of Farmville; a stepdaughter, Betsy Summerville (George) of Richmond; four sisters, Doris Harrison of Collinsville, Ina “Boots” Sinclair of Spindale, NC, Judith Cline of Forest City, NC, and Sandra Byers of Forest City, NC; three grandsons, a granddaughter, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a step great-grandson.

A memorial service was held in Farmville Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 10.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Patrick Henry Boys Home, Brookneal, VA.
