MARCH 3 – Edwin Newton Baker, Sr., 74, of Farmville, died Sunday, March 1, 2009. He was born October 4, 1934 in Charlotte County, one of the nine children of the late Russell P. Baker and Annie Allen Baker. Edwin retired from Longwood College on September 30, 1999 after 29 years.

He is survived by two sons, David Baker and Edwin Newton Baker Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Linda B. Baker and Charlotte A. Baker; granddaughters, Patricia Lynn Baker, Elizabeth Nicole Baker, and Kimberly Marie Baker, all of Farmville; brothers, Russell P. Baker, Roy Baker, Jack Baker, and Larry D. Baker; and four sisters, Peggy B. East, Doris B. Jones, Margaret B. Jenkins, and Nancy B. Fowler.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 5, in the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.
