BROADWAY FAVORITE, “Guys and Dolls” will be showing at Wolfbane’s indoor venue, 197 Old Courthouse Road, Appomattox, through Feb. 23. Thursday-Saturday, doors open at 7 p.m. Show begins at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees, doors open at 2 p.m. Show begins at 3 p.m. Seating is limited. Reserve your tickets soon.

VETERANS ASSISTANCE 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A representative for the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will be at the Farmville-Prince Edward County Library, 1303 West 3rd Street, Farmville. Call the Lynchburg office at (434) 582-5102 with any questions.

FEBRUARY 15

AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY PROGRAM, 1 p.m. at the St. Michael Baptist Church in Drakes Branch. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Willie Tisdale of South Hill. Music provided by the St. Michael Baptist Church choir. All guests are encouraged to wear African attire. Dinner will be served following the program. Hosted by Central High Museum.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, 2 p.m. at Jericho Baptist Church, 615 Franklin Street, Farmville, entitled “The Spirit of Harriett Tubman,” presented by Diane Faison. Pastor, the Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, III.

PANCAKE SUPPER, 5-7 p.m. hosted by the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary at the firehouse, 45 Campbell Hill Road, Prospect. The meal will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, apples and a drink. The cost is a donation at the door. Carryout available.

VALENTINES DESSERT SOCIAL, 2-4:30 p.m. at The Hamilton”, 1925 Cartersville Road, Cartersville. Enjoy recorded music on the turntable and live music featuring local talent performing favorite songs from the past. You will be able to tour the school. All proceeds will go towards restoration of the building.

DINNER AND SILENT AUCTION, 6 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Ca Ira Road, Buckingham for baby Asher Pleasants, who needs a second heart operation in California. His stay there will be about three months. He is the son of Hugh and Sheryl Pleasants.

2020 BIENNIAL WINTER GALA, 8 p.m.-midnight hosted by Longwood Center for the Visual Arts at 129 N. Main St., Farmville.

BOY SCOUT MERIT BADGE COLLEGE DAY, at Hampden-Sydney. The event is open to all troops in the Heart of Virginia Council. To register, visit the Heart of Virginia Council website and search for Hampden-Sydney Merit Badge College Day.

FEBRUARY 16

BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Dillwyn. Morning service will begin at 11 a.m. with Buckingham native, Minister Zan Allen from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charlottesville. A luncheon will be served. The afternoon service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Buckingham presenters in the field of art, entrepreneurship, education, government, law, music and more. B.A.S.I.C. (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) from Longwood will be celebrating with us in song.

ORGAN RECITAL, 3 p.m. at Farmville United Methodist Church. The community is welcome to attend.

BLACK HISTORY SERVICE, 11 a.m. at Midway. Master Sergeant Otis Brown will be sharing his testimony of his experience in Iraq. The theme is “Hush, Hush, Somebody’s Calling My Name” with scripture reference from Matthew 3:1-4. Midway is located at 837 Guinea Road, Farmville. Rev. Irma T. Watson is pastor.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO MEET, 2 p.m. in the Cumberland Museum located in the old clerk’s office at the Cumberland Courthouse. Speaker will be Mr. L.D. Phaup, a Buckingham native and local historian, with a presentation entitled “Arrowheads and Virginia Indians” to explore how they lived and the tools used for farming, hunting and warfare. Everyone welcome.

WORSHIP SERVICE, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr John Brisco from Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg. The morning message will be “I Have a Dream by Dr. Martin Luther King”.

FEBRUARY 18

MEETING, 2:30 p.m. of The Southern Virginia GO Region 3 Executive Committee in the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, 820 Bruce Street, South Boston. The meeting is open to the public.

LECTURE, 7:30 p.m. “Reconciliation and Reparations: The Prince Edward Story” about the 1959-1964 school closing in Prince Edward County. The featured speakers are H-SC alumni Brian Grogan and Ken Woodley. The event will be held at Crawley Forum. Free and open to the public.”

LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES, 7:30 presents a concert of music for violin, cello, and fortepiano by The Eisenstadt Trio. Free and open to the public, the concert will take place in the Molnar Recital Hall of Wygal Music Building.

QUILT GROUP TO MEET, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall, 815 N. Main Street, South Boston. The group creates lap quilts and throws for veterans, as well as for wounded active military overseas. All quilters and sewers of any experience welcome, as well as anyone that would like to learn. TWELFTH ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN BANQUET, 3 p.m. at the Frances Redwood Education Center in New Canton, sponsored by the United Baptist Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia. “Honoring Outstanding Buckingham Community Leaders” is the theme. The attire is African outfits or the colors red, black, green, and gold.

DRAMA AND MUSICAL BY THE KING’S PLAYERS, 7 p.m. at the FOCUS Center of Concord Baptist Church, Sheppards. Liberty University students will present “Which Way?’, a humorous, thought provoking, and powerful dramatic presentation of the Gospel which examines man’s ultimate destiny. BABY SHOWER FOR FEMALE VETERANS, 6-8 p.m. at Merk’s Place, 2106 West 3rd Street, hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32 of Farmville. New items from newborn to 24 months may be dropped at Merk’s through Feb. 24. Gently used items may be dropped at the Piedmont Area Veterans Council on 820 Longwood Avenue. GUEST SPEAKER, 7:30 p.m. in the Blackwell Ballroom of Longwood featuring Rodney Robinson, the 2019 National Teacher of the Year, to discuss his whole-child approach to education, as well as his efforts to improve equity in educational opportunities. The event is free and open to the public.
