Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will host a presentation about a specific group of soldiers who exemplified bravery, dedication and heroism for their nation, their culture and their loved ones, most of whom were still an enslaved people, Saturday, Feb. 8.

During the Civil War, the Union Army began forming regiments of African-American volunteers. Known, at the time as the “United States Colored Troops,” or more commonly referred to as the USCT’s, these regiments proved their worth and mettle in battle during the final year of the war, especially during the occupation of Richmond and Petersburg as well as the Appomattox Campaign.

Starting at 1 p.m., guest speaker and National Park Service Ranger Christopher Bingham, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, will present this family-friendly, free program in the Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Visitor Center.
