Robert Earl Bowen, Sr., 80, passed peacefully away at his home, Windmill Hill Farms on November 2, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Adkins Bowen and Robert C. Bowen and his sisters Brenda Bowen Staples, and Ann Bowen Spencer.

He worked for Gerson and Gerson for 49 years including his employment at the Crewe Garment Factory. His life was enriched through God, family, farming cattle, tobacco, soybeans, and many other ventures involving his love of the land near Burke’s Tavern.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jenkins Bowen, his children, Robert Earl Bowen, Jr. (Janet), Janice Bowen Scruggs (Ronald), Stephen Wade Bowen (Annah) and Francis Todd Bowen, as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Beverley Bowen Salmon.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia with memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Burkeville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Burkeville Volunteer Fire Department.
