HOVMG announce June programs

The Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners (HOVMG) will have two programs for the public during the month of June in Prince Edward and Buckingham counties.

“Hydroponics” will be the topic June 6 at the noon Lunch and Learn at the Prince Edward Extension Office, 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville. Jake Morgan, 4H Extension Agent and Tom Schwartz, Master Gardener will be the speakers. They will explain the basics of hydroponics — growing plants without soil using nutrients in water. It is an alternative way to grow food. They will also discuss the benefits of hydroponics to the home gardener, how difficult is it and equipment needed.

The June 15 Gardening Tips and Topics in Buckingham will be 10 a.m. at the Buckingham Extension Office, 54 Administration Lane, Buckingham. Speaker will be Emily Gibbs with the Piedmont Soil and Conservation District. Her topic will be “Controlling Erosion in Your Yard.” Her presentation will address common erosion and stormwater problems in residential settings and the steps homeowners can take to solve them. This includes conservation landscaping, rain gardens and rainwater harvesting.
