Protecting your assets

Attend a free workshop about Estate Planning Essentials Jan. 30 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Randolph VFD at 2145 Cumberland Road, Farmville. Learn how to create liquidity and protect assets; avoid probate and minimize taxes in wealth and business transfer; make provisions for the surviving spouse; keep your affairs private and out of the courts; protect your estate from creditors, predators and disgruntled family members; and conserve your assets from catastrophic illness. Presentations will be made by David Wise, Independent Insurance Agent; Thomas Hill, Certified Public Accountant; and James P Seidl, Business, Estate and Tax Planning Attorney. The Buckingham 4-H Livestock Club will have its next meeting Monday, Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a halter making workshop. The meeting will also focus on discussions around choosing and securing livestock show animals, as well as starting the livestock project. The meeting will be held at the Virginia Cooperative Extension – Buckingham Office at 54 Administration Lane, Buckingham. They have informative classes scheduled to show you all the library offers for your device, or you can schedule a one-on-one session with a librarian. Classes are Wednesdays from 11a.m.-noon. The Tablet and Phone Apps class will be held Jan. 9, the E books and Downloads class will be held Jan. 16, and the Intro to Computers class will be held Jan. 23.
