October 31 — “Happy Halloween!”

Daylight savings time will end on Saturday night at 2 a.m. (thank goodness). Please turn your clock back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

Election Day is right around the corner, Tuesday, Nov. 4. Please come out and vote.

The Prospect Historical Society will have their annual “Election Day Stew” on sale that day. The stew will be ready by 11 a.m. for pick up, it will sell for $6 a quart.

The October meeting of the Longwood Garden Club was held at the home of Pam Brumfield. Chris Rogers from B and M Greenhouse gave a presentation on fall planting. Peggy Kelsey received a blue ribbon on her vegetative arrangement. Jane Hines was co-hostess.

Last Wednesday and Thursday Mrs. Betty Meadows and Mrs. Julie Shotwell spent time at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Mrs. Meadows crossed off an item on her “bucket list” – to ride on the Capital Wheel. The view is amazing at night with lights over the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. A delicious seafood dinner was enjoyed at McCormick and Schmicks restaurant. On Thursday afternoon a trip to the outlets was made before heading home.

On Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. John Gager and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows enjoyed dinner at a local restaurant in celebration of Don’s birthday.

On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows joined the birthday celebration for Melisa Ward at the Farmville train station. A large crowd wished Melisa a very “happy birthday!”

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows enjoyed being a part of the “birthday and anniversary” celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Bolt at the Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church in Tuggle. It was the Bolts 40th wedding anniversary and Mrs. Bolt’s Birthday.

Last Friday Mr. Charles Smith visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith.

On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith traveled to Chesterfield for a medical appointment, did some shopping and had an enjoyable lunch.

Mrs. Norma Hertzler, Mrs. Rosie Lapp and Mrs. Pat Smith met for lunch at Merk’s Place on Wednesday.

Sunday Shirley Fulcher and Mary Hayes accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Mike Fulcher to Lynchburg to visit Taylor Fulcher then on to lunch for a belated birthday celebration for Shirley Fulcher’s birthday.

The Special Blessing Mission Group of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church at Prospect met on Monday to begin working on their special project for the upcoming holidays, this was followed by a lunch.

Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Bolt and Joshua, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bolt and Chris attended the fundraiser for Joshua on Saturday night at the Student Union Ballroom at Longwood University sponsored by Phi Mu Delta and Alpha Phi Omega. The acoustic benefit was a large success. The sorority members were all volunteers for Joshua and his program with his walk. Joshua’s other grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Vince Eikmeier of Richmond were here for this special event.

The Rev. Buddy Woodson was the guest minister at the Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church on Sunday. His wife Lois Woodson spoke on the mission work they are doing in London England. Following church services Mrs. Flora Woodson, Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Woodson, Mrs. Ramona Woodson of Bluefield West Virginia had lunch at Applebee’s. Others from out of town were: John Wallace Woodson of Powhatan, Mrs. Sandra Woodson Atkins and her daughter Whitney and her children Luke and Lily of Sanford, North Carolina.

There was a large crowd attending the birthday party for Mrs. Betty Jean Bolt held at the Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian church fellowship hall on Sunday afternoon. This was also a surprise 40th anniversary celebration for Douglas and Betty Jean Bolt given by their daughter Stacy. It was good Betty Jean could come out for awhile since she has been on the sick list for 18-plus months due to a back injury. Many well wishes for them.

Jeannette Tarlton hosted the October gathering of the Prospect Happy Hats on Thursday the 23. Joining Jeannette at Glenn Memorial Baptist church for lunch and pumpkin decorating were: Hilda Allen, Lorraine Chapman, Elfrieda Kerns, Lois Johnson, Ann Norton, Rita Rountree, Pat Smith, Margaret Stockton, Betty Sumner and Elsie Wilson. Lunch was served by Evelyn Shelton, Shirley Fulcher, Shirley Mottley and Jane Bauer.

There was much excitement on Hummingbird Hill on Saturday as the Stockton’s were having a tree cut. It made a bad twist and fell on the house taking off the chimney and putting a large hole in the roof.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for those who are sick at this time: Frances Southall, Avery Kay Allen, Elfrieda Kerns, Ray Noblin, Carol Ann Reynolds, Raymond Dickerson, and Elsie Fulcher StJohn.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. Rev. Chuck Klozenberger will be with them on Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. Kevin White will be with them this Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The Church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
