FARMVILLE — My vision for the Town of Farmville is to promote the orderly growth of commercial and residential areas, while providing a safe, successful environment that promotes commerce, recreation, and education, with a strong family atmosphere.

I wish to request your support for my election to the Farmville Town Council in the August 19 special election. As a resident, property owner, and previous business owner in the Town of Farmville, I feel that I have the background necessary to perform the duties of this position.

My service record to the Town includes membership or former membership in several local organizations (including the Exchange Club and the Odd Fellows), past leadership positions in the Downtown Merchants Association (including terms as secretary, vice-president and president), volunteer service to benefit the Farmville Fire Department’s Annual Spring Bash (including terms as treasurer and chairman of the event), and current appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town for the past 14 years.

If elected to this position, I am confident that I will demonstrate the integrity, determination, and drive necessary to be a valuable asset to the council, Town, and citizens I represent.

My objectives are to:

Maintain high standards of safety as the community continues to expand.

Support the continued growth of business within the area without infringing on the rights of current homeowners.

Provide our youth with a wider variety of educational and entertainment options so they are occupied in productive activities.

Keep costs and fees as low as possible for taxpayers without sacrificing necessary improvements for the community.

Ensure high standards of preparation for possible emergencies or natural disasters with back-up water supplies, relief plans, and equipment.

Encourage tourism and recreational use of area parks, waterways and trails.

Protect the interest of the small business owners, as well as those of larger chain stores.

Preserve the historic beauty of the area and guard its natural resources.

Increase citizen participation in Town events, government, and elections. Your opinions do matter.

Remain available and responsive to the council and public it represents.

Working together, we can keep Farmville a great place to live.
