LU's Washington Earns 4th In Cape League HR Contest

BOURNE, MA — Longwood University junior Kyri Washington/Prospect finished fourth in the Home Run Hitting Contest at the Friendly's Cape League All-Star Game on Sunday, July 27 at Doran Park in Bourne, Massachusetts. He hit four homers in the opening round of the contest that was won with eight after two rounds. Washington, who missed advancing to the second round by just one, is batting .200 with one home run, one triple, one double, seven runs, seven walks and eight RBI through 31 games with the Wareham Gatemen of the prestigious wooden-bat Cape League.

Washington, an outfielder, started 53 of 54 games during 2014 for the Lancers, batting .260 with seven home runs, one triple, a team-best 18 doubles, 34 RBIs and 30 runs, along with 15 walks and 10-12 stolen bases. He had 17 multi-hit games, six multi-RBI games, a team-best .451 slugging percentage, along with a .321 on base percentage and a .950 fielding percentage with 91 putouts and four assists in 100 chances. Washington led the team in four offensive stat categories, while tied for second in Big South doubles, tied for fourth in home runs and tied for eighth in total bases (97).
