Fuqua baseball to play Sunday, softball to play Monday

Inclement weather has created a delay in the baseball and softball state tournaments of which Fuqua School is a part, but the Falcons varsity baseball team is set to play its state semifinal game Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in Colonial Heights.

The Lady Falcons varsity softball team’s state semifinal is now set for Monday 1 p.m. after having been moved from Thursday at 5 p.m. to Friday at 1 p.m. to Saturday at noon only to be postponed each time.

The No. 3-seeded Fuqua baseball team was originally set to play its semifinal game against No. 7 Brunswick Academy at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights. Then the game was moved up to 4 p.m. in an effort to beat the rain. That effort was not successful. Game times at 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday also failed to work due to continued rain.

If the Falcons win, they will face No. 1 Walsingham Academy in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division III state championship game.

The No. 2-seeded Lady Falcons will be taking on No. 3 Southampton Academy in their semifinal game, a rematch of last year’s VISAA Division III state title game, which the Lady Raiders won 3-1.
