Farmville Fire Department 2nd Lieutenant Travis Finch said the department received a call about the accident Sunday at 12:53 p.m.

While Farmville Fire Department, Virginia State Police (VSP) and Prince Edward County Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the incident, the right lane southbound on Route 15 was closed.

“It was a confirmed entrapment,” Finch said about the accident, which involved a 2017 gray Ford Focus that ran into the woods. Finch said the man was able to exit the vehicle after he and first responders removed a small tree that blocked the driver’s door.

VSP Trooper B.J. Hylton said the vehicle was driving northbound on Route 15. “(The vehicle) ran off road,” Hylton said. “Crossed over the intersection.”

Hylton said John Mingle, of Charlotte Court House, was transported to the hospital following the accident. Mingle, who is in his late 70s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Hylton said the accident remains under investigation.
