Funding is available through the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District to help homeowners pay for 50 percent of the costs of septic system pump outs, repairs and replacements. The program also educates residents about proper septic system care and about the environmental and health impacts of failing septic systems. To qualify, applicants must live in the Spring Creek, Briery Creek, Sandy River, Bush River, Little Sandy Creek or Saylers Creek watersheds in Prince Edward County and a small part of Amelia and Nottoway Counties. Financial assistance is available regardless of income level. According to a press release, an informational workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. at the USDA Service center located at 100 Dominion Drive Farmville, beside Lowe’s. Join us to learn how to properly maintain your septic system and how to apply for financial assistance. To learn more about our septic program, determine if you live in an eligible watershed, or request an application, please contact Emily Gibbs at (434) 392-3782 ext. 131 or egibbs@piedmontswcd.org.
