The Virginia State Parks New Year’s Day tradition of getting outdoors for a cool, brisk, ranger-led hike continues at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield. The hike will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.

According to a press release, participants are encouraged to wear layered clothing and closed-toe footwear appropriate for hiking in cold temperatures along a mixed terrain of grassy areas and varying elevation.

“Pets are welcome and must be kept on a leash, under the control of their handlers at all times,” officials said in the release.
