On Oct. 7-8, all are invited to experience what it was like to be a member of the old men and boys Home Guard unit that defended High Bridge during the American Civil War. Some activities will include, learning about the The Third Virginia Reserves, who they were, why they were created, and what were their duties and gathering around the garrison to hear about the significance of the High Bridge during the Civil War. According to a press release, the event will include live fire musket demonstrations, living historians will discuss what life was like for women during the 19th century in Virginia, music for the soldiers, including old-timey banjo music, Sunday morning church service and learning about Civil War medicine and what wounded and sick soldiers would experience going to a hospital.
