Roundabout will be a ‘disaster’

The Town of Farmville is considering installing a “roundabout” on High Street. The term roundabout is a European term. This is not Europe. In what used to be the U.S., it was called “traffic circle.” Traffic circles in this country went out long ago — they don’t work. McGuire Circle in Richmond was an example.

Most Farmville intersections now have “no turn on red” signs. If right turn on red is a problem in Farmville, a traffic circle will be a disaster — like the cobblestones on Main Street and the curb in front of the court house.

If the streets of Farmville are controlled by Longwood’s “Master Plan,” then let them pay for it. Longwood should also pay for the town water tank with its name on it.
