As summer draws to a close, many plants in the garden and landscape have turned to seed production; and before there were so many resources for buying seeds, gardeners would carefully save and share those seeds from plants they liked. The next Heart of Virginia Master Gardener Lunch & Learn program is all about that. VCE Master Gardener Pat Lust will present on collecting, preserving and planting seeds from your garden.

Lust will look at planning gardens for producing seeds, preparing for collecting seeds, preparing them for storage, labeling and organizing the seeds and finally getting ready to plant in the spring. She will talk about characteristics of certain plants that affect seed production.

Recently retired from Longwood University where she was a professor of music and held various administrative positions, Lust is currently spending a lot of time growing plants that are native to Virginia to contribute to native demonstration gardens and plant sales. She is also researching plant family relationships and would be glad to tell you about some of them.

The Lunch & Learn Program is Thursday at noon, in the conference room of the Prince Edward County Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville.
