The Farmville Coloring Book project — one awarded a $1,000 grant from the Supporting Outstanding Urban Projects (SOUP) event — remains in the early stages of design.

According to Jen Cox, who is part of the team which includes Abbey O’Connor and Will Stewart, the team is working on getting artists to draw pictures. The group is also looking at a timeline of having the book ready by the start of the Virginia Children’s Book Festival, which takes place in October.

“We’d like to promote Farmville and Prince Edward County and you know, perhaps see it as an opportunity that people will come and visit, purchase a coloring book, bring it back and maybe spread the word and help on the tourism side of things,” Cox said.

She said another goal was to pull local artists together to help work on the project.

The team behind the book originally came up with the idea during sessions at Leadership Farmville, a program that spanned seven months, dedicated to developing new leaders in the community.

The coloring book is aimed at promoting tourism in the area.

Carley Fetty, who was awarded the $2,000 grant for her student mural project, has already finished the first of six murals that the project consists of.

The first mural was designed by eighth-grade Prince Edward County Middle School student Audrey Magill and was painted on the exterior wall of j fergeson gallery by Magill, Fetty and other middle school students.
