Billy Ray Stanfill

Billy Ray Stanfill, age 78, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in a local hospital. Mr. Stanfill was the son of the late Jewel Lucille Johnson Stanfill and Alton L. Stanfill. His brother, Bobbie Stanfill also preceded him in death. Mr. Stanfill was retired from Weavexx Corporation in Farmville as engineer and maintenance manager with over 50 years of service. The last two years with the company, he served as a consultant. He served in the United States Army National Guard in Alabama. He was a huge University of Alabama Sports Fan! He enjoyed working outdoors, including working in his yard and riding his John Deere Tractor and working in his vegetable and flower gardens. Mr. Stanfill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland.

Survivors include his wife, Merle J. Townsend Stanfill of Cleveland; his sons, Michael Ray Stanfill, and his wife, Judy, also of Cleveland, Greg Stanfill and his wife, Marlene, of Pickensville, Alabama; his grandchildren, Nicole Stanfill Floyd, and her husband Wes, William “Bill” Stanfill, and his wife, Erika, Lee Stanfill, and his wife Heather, Judson Stanfill, David Strickland and Cassie Gaston, and her husband, Jared; numerous great-grandchildren; his sisters, Agatha Tucker, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Nell Greenley, of LaFayette, Louisiana, Eva Sims, and her husband, Russell of Valley, Alabama, and Olivia Gesslin, and her husband, Gary of Columbus, Mississippi; his brother, James Larry Stanfill, of Aliceville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The remembrance of life service was conducted Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with the Rev. Tom Wickes and Pastor Rodney Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with his grandsons, Wes Floyd, Bill Stanfill, Lee Stanfill, Judson Stanfill, David Strickland and Jared Gaston serving as casket bearers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 1275 Stuart Road N.E. Cleveland, TN, 37312 or to a charity of your choice.
