Clarence Terry Schmidt

Clarence Terry Schmidt, 98, of Keysville, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, April 28, 2017. Born March 4, 1919, he was the second of five children born to the late George and Annie Schmidt of Rice.

Clarence was a member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church with 28 years perfect attendance. 

He is survived by one daughter, Barbara S. Ferguson, and husband Barry of Lynchburg; one sister, Alma Lewis of Farmville; two grandchildren, Holly Smith and husband Tim, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Cecil Barry Ferguson Jr., of Lynchburg; seven great-grandchildren, Zack Smith and wife Shaina, Noah Smith and wife Hannah, all of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Christian Smith of Charleston, South Carolina, Tember Ferguson, Haivon Miller, Ely Ferguson and Zane Ferguson, all of Lynchburg; three great-great-grandchildren, Laylah Ware, Addy Miller and Ayra Miller all of Lynchburg.

Clarence was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn; and his three brothers, Aubrey, Clyde and Alvin Schmidt.

Clarence had a great sense of humor and loved attending his church and reading his Bible.  He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and his dogs.  He worked in many capacities from milkman (where he met Evelyn, who was working in a restaurant) to the railroad, truck driver, and welder.  He retired as a welder from Stackpole in Farmville.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 7, from 2-3 p.m., at Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church, 3505 Crab Orchard Road, Keysville VA, 23947.  A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.
