Historic Buckingham will meet at Chellowe

All members and prospective members are invited to attend Historic Buckingham’s spring membership meeting on the lawn of historic Chellowe on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. After a brief business meeting, there will be a tour of the house, barn, grounds and cemetery. Chellowe was built around 1820 and is listed on the Virginia and National Historic Landmark Registry. It is located at 2028 Chellowe Road, five miles west of Sprouse’s Corner. The Woman’s Missionary Union is sponsoring an Annie Armstrong Easter offering dinner and program at Concord Baptist Church on Sunday at 5 p.m. Dinner includes a variety of soups and grilled cheese sandwiches. A short program will be provided after dinner. Meals are provided for a donation. The community is invited to attend.

Want to learn how to can your garden’s bounty? Virginia Cooperative Extension Services is offering a workshop on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Southern Piedmont AREC in Blackstone. Fee is $5. This canning workshop will cover how to can with pressure, hot water bath and steam canners. Topics include the science of canning, canning equipment, recipes, storage and more. Help keep Buckingham beautiful! Bring old tires to the former Dillwyn Primary School for a tire disposal day on Saturday from 7 a.m.-noon. Residents with a current county sticker can turn in 25 regular tires per household. Absolutely no tires with rims, truck tires, tractor tires, commercial tires or equipment tires are allowed. Let’s fight cancer together! Come out to Teresa’s Place (15055 N. James Madison Hwy., Dillwyn) on Saturday from noon-4 p.m. to see the largest car show in Buckingham County! First- and second-place prizes will be awarded for cars from the 1950s to the present. Categories will include automobiles from each decade. Motorcycles will be awarded first and second place for domestic and metric. New this year is the four-wheel drive class. Pre-registration fee is $10; day of the show is $15. The Buckingham Extension Office is hosting a Water Quality Testing Workshop on Monday. Individuals who express interest in the Coliform Bacteria Retest can pick up water bottles at that meeting and drop them off the morning of Wednesday. The cost for that test is $18. Virginia Cooperative Extension will offer its 2017 Grazing School on Tuesday and Wednesday at Virginia Tech, McCormick Farm, Raphine. This intensive two-day course will teach everything about better management of grazing on farmland. Class size is limited, with priority given to the first 25 producers to register.
