VERNAL POOL EXPLORATION, 10 a.m. Explore amphibian life cycles and also see aquatic invertebrates, such as fairy shrimp, on a visit to vernal pools below High Bridge. An abundance of vernal pools formed in depressions left by construction during the 1850s. Longwood University Professor Dr. Sujan Henk will aid visitors with the search and identification of astonishing life forms in these important ecosystems. Visitors will meet at the Camp Paradise Parking Access. Be prepared for wet conditions, and a round-trip hike of about a mile. This event is free, but a parking fee of $4 does apply. RAFFLE, AUCTION AND DINNER, 4:30 p.m. at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, 1267 4-H Camp Road, Appomattox. COMMENT MEETING, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., to help you submit comments about the Atlantic Coast Pipeline’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Will be held at Ellis Acres, 245 Camden St., Dillwyn. Volunteers will guide you through the process of submitting your comments. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Buckingham.

DEACON AND TRUSTEE’S ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church. The musical guest will be “Soldiers for Christ.” Midway is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville. All are welcome.

WOMAN’S DAY PROGRAM, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at the corner of Fourth and Main St., Farmville. Guest speaker will be Sister Shirby Scott-Brown. The Rev. James P. Ashton is pastor.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at the Old Green Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Samuel F. Trent will deliver the message. Refreshments will be served following the service. Dress is casual. Everyone is welcome.

DR. CHARLES ROSS, of Longwood University will be speaking to the Friends of the Library at the library in Farmville. He is a professor of physics and has written three books about technology and science used during the Civil War. Refreshments will be served.

SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARDS PRESENTATION, 7 p.m. of the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution at the Historic Farmville Train Station. The speaker will be Regent Melody Ramsey of the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter.

LENTEN SERVICES/LUNCHEONS, noon-1 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. The theme this year is “Tiny Faith — Awesome Grace.” The speaker will be the Rev. Rich Meiser and the topic is “Faith that Transforms.” The lunch will be provided by members of the congregation. BAKED POTATO DINNER, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department, 2145 Cumberland Road. The dinner includes baked potato with toppings of butter, sour cream, bacon bits, chili, cheese and broccoli. Also, salad, desserts and drinks will be included. Please donate at the door to support the fire department. The auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month at the fire department. New members are needed and welcome.

ST. PATRICK’S DANCE, 8 p.m. hosted by the Cumberland Fire Department Auxiliary at the firehouse on Route 13 (Old Buckingham Rd) in Cumberland. Cost will be $10 per person and everyone attending must be at least 21 years old. Soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department.

HIKE UNDER THE BRIDGE, 1 p.m. Meet Park Ranger Bob Flippen on the east end of High Bridge near the fort and at the intersection with Camp Paradise Trail. Total distance is about one mile. PIEDMONT AREA VETERANS COUNCIL, meetings will be held at the Thomas Hardy Graham VFW Post 7059 in Farmville starting this month. Both the board meeting and regular meeting on the third Monday of every month beginning this month. A Community Engagement Meeting, open to the public, will be at 9 a.m. Veteran Service Officers from the American Legion Post No. 32 will be available from 1-4 p.m. that same day to assist in filing for VA Benefits.

POND MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP, 1-4:30 p.m. sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension. The workshop will begin at the Cumberland Extension Office with a wrap up visit to a pond about two miles from the office. The fee is $5 per person and can be paid on the day of the event.

BOATER SAFETY CERTIFICATE CLASS, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Central Virginia Community College — Appomattox Center. The class is appropriate for anyone age 10 or older. A certificate is required for anyone operating a 10 horsepower or higher boat in Virginia. No charges for the class, but you must pre-register at www.register-ed.com. Bring lunch. EASTER EGG HUNT, 9-11 a.m. The Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is holding a breakfast with the Easter Bunny and egg hunt on at the firehouse, located at 2145 Cumberland Road. The egg hunt will be at 10 a.m. Breakfast will be pancakes, egg casserole, muffins, juice, milk and coffee. Please have the children ages infant to 12 to bring their Easter baskets to collect the eggs. Please donate at the door to support the fire department.
