Falcons suffer 8-1 loss to R-H

The Fuqua School girls tennis team fell 8-1 to the Randolph-Henry High School Statesmen on Thursday.

Fuqua’s Grace Algeier was the sole Lady Falcon to win her match. She played No. 1 Alena Latysheva and won 7-6in a tiebreaker.

No. 2 Charlotte Townsend was defeated by Emily Toombs 6-1. No. 3 Amber Bruce was defeated by Helen Lin 6-2. No. 4 Morgan Cole fell 6-0 to McKenzie Sharpe. No. 5 Claudia Sadler was defeated by Emily DeCamp. No. 6 seed Catherine Rutherford fell to Tyler Whirley 6-0.

In doubles action, No. 1 seed Algeier/Townsend fell 6-0 to Couper Webb/Meredith Feinman. Bruce/Cole were the No. 2 seed and fell 6-2 to Lin/Sharpe. No. 3 Bailey Rutherford/Natalia Summa were defeated 6-0 by Morgan Mason/Eliza Walker.

With the loss, the Falcons drop to 0-1, as their first match of the season against Blessed Sacrament Huguenot was canceled.

The Lady Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Randolph-Henry at 4 p.m.

Fuqua will not play again until Monday, when the team travels to Charlottesville Christian Tennis Club for a 4:30 p.m. match.
