Area Christmas parades set

The festive Christmas parades celebrating the holiday across the Heart of Virginia will soon fill area Main Streets with floats, red-and-white hats and yuletide.

The annual Farmville Christmas Parade, organized by the Farmville Jaycees, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. in downtown Farmville along Main Street. The theme of the parade, sponsored exclusively by Alcova Mortgage, is the songs of Christmas.

Richard LeSueur, a Herald sales representative and host of WVHL’s “Richard’s Roundup,” will emcee the parade, along with members of the WVHL team, according to a press release from the Jaycees.

“Categories for judging will feature commercial floats, non-commercial floats, horses and marching units,” according to the release.

Dillwyn

The annual Dillwyn Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. in downtown Dillwyn on Main Street.

Floats will lineup at the

Central Virginia Christian School on Main Street.

The parade will have no specific theme, but event organizers encourage participants to “use their creativity and imagination to share their holiday spirit and community pride.”

Judging and announcing will take place at the Buckingham Branch Railroad platform.

The Buckingham County Community Christmas Tree lighting will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. at the county’s courthouse.

Cumberland

The Cumberland County Christmas Parade will be on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 60 in the court house village.

The themes of the parade will be Christmas for our forest friends, a World War II Christmas and Father Christmas from around the world.

Parade entrants must be in place by 1:15 p.m.
