Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Prospect invites you to their Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department will be serving lunch each Saturday now through Jan. 1 (with the exception of Christmas Day) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the hunters. The menu will include beans, cornbread, hot dogs and bologna burgers.

Sean Stockton celebrated his birthday on Friday, Dec. 17 with dinner at Merk's Place. Joining him were his parents, Lon and Mary Jo Stockton, his grandparents, Richard and Margaret Stockton, and friends Richard and Rosemary Pollard and Jessica.

Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the Christmas program of the Central Virginia Christian School of Buckingham on Friday night at Jarman Hall. Mrs. Bolt's granddaughter Haley Murdock took part in the program. Also, attending were Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Terri) Bolt, Mrs. Polly Mottley, Nicky Bolt and friend, and Payton Baldwin.

Mr. and Mrs. Don (Betty) Meadows spent last Saturday in Lynchburg shopping and treating themselves to dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Lois) Gager entertained their families for Christmas lunch last Sunday.

Last Wednesday classmates Shirley Fulcher, Jo Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Nancy) Dickerson, Bobbie Leatherwood, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Joyce) Floyd and Margaret Stockton met at Merk's Place for their December get together.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Special prayers are needed for Thomas Booth.

The Special Blessings of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church at Prospect visited the residents of the Woodlands on Monday. Shirley Fulcher, Evelyn Shelton and Shirley Mottley distributed presents to the residents.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church held their Christmas program this past Sunday night. They had a very good attendance.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will fill the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. Kemper Beasley III will fill the pulpit on Sunday morning.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.

This is the week of Christmas and I remember growing up shopping did not start until the day after Thanksgiving. The stores would all stay open until 9 p.m. each night accept Christmas Eve when they closed at 5 p.m. Of course downtown Farmville had quite a few stores like, Leggett, Baldwin's, Hub, Esther May, Davidson, Vassar's Men's Store, Gray's Drug Store, Patterson's Drug, Crutes', Martin the Jewelers, Newberry's and Roses. There was no need to go out of town. Decorations did not go up until after Thanksgiving.

I also remember our Christmas tree went up sometime the first part of December and did not come down until 12 days after Christmas. It was a red cedar with a board nailed to the bottom, the decorations were placed on the tree with care and then there were the icicles that had to be placed one at a time and not over-lapping. The house was always filled with the aroma of good things cooking. Oh, for the old times at Christmas.
