Editor:

I need to elaborate on what candidate Dennis Davis said at the board of supervisors’ candidates forum sponsored by the Farm Bureau in Buckingham County recently.

My previous letter (“Candidates need more information on pipeline,” Oct. 30) stated that Davis said that the pipeline would not provide jobs to Buckingham.

He said that during construction Dominion would bring in its own crew for the construction. He spoke favorably about the pipeline, stating that the restaurants, stores and motels in the area would benefit. He also stated that there will be some permanent jobs. I did not state enough of what Davis said. I apologize to him and the readers of The Herald.

Davis and the candidates failed to mention any negative aspect of the pipeline. If technology were perfect and there was no harm to the environment, there is still the most egregious problem, namely the use of eminent domain.

That means the government can confiscate the use of property, for profit in this case, and not for public good. Is this constitutional?
