Eagles down Chargers in JRD volleyball

The Prince Edward Eagles varsity volleyball team traveled to Central of Lunenburg on Thursday in a James River District contest. The Eagles continued to surpass their high expectations this season as they took down the Chargers 3-1.

The Eagles started off slowly as Central grabbed an early 13-8 lead in the first game of the contest. Prince Edward came back to make a late run, but the Chargers took the first set by a 25-18 score.

The second set was much different. Prince Edward grabbed an 11-7 lead on spike and kill by Sam Gubash to give the team momentum.

Katelyn Jones came through with a kill during the game to push the Eagles up 17-7 and they cruised on to get a 25-12 set victory to tie things up. In the third set Central continued to battle and grabbed an early lead, but the Eagles led by good serving from Morgan Todt and a block by Grace Rust took control and got a 14-10 lead. They went on to claim a 23-18 third game victory. Prince Edward finished off the contest in the fourth game as they got another kill from Gubash at the net and a spike by Olivia Borum to seal a 25-11 set win and overall victory.

The Eagles will continue district play on Thursday as they host Goochland at 7 p.m.
