September 23 is the beginning of autumn. Can cool days and nights be far behind?

Ray Kelsey celebrated his birthday at the Moore Center last Thursday. He received flowers and balloons from the local grandchildren, Debra Sue and Darrell Shumaker and Celena Kelsey. He also received a recent picture of his great-grandson, Bryson Philander Kelsey, of Chesterfield. Telephone calls from his out-of-state children, Karen, of New Hampshire, and Phil, of California, were received. Flowers were delivered to him from Hampden-Sydney basketball fans Hughie and Brenda Kitchen. All in all, Ray had a great birthday.

Mrs. Flora Bolt was honored on Sunday, September 19 at the Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall at Tuggle with a party for her 80th birthday. Her birthday was Sept. 18. Her party was given by her sons and their wives: Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Betty Jean) Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Dale (Judy) Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Terri) Bolt, and Mr. and Mrs. Klye (Jennifer) Bolt, also her grandchildren Stacy Bolt, Jennifer Page Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Chris (Melissa) Bolt, Mrs. Nichole Bolt Murdock, Mrs. Ashley Bolt Paquette and David, Brandon Bolt, and Joshua Bolt. Flora has two great-granddaughters, Haley and Payden Murdock. There were about 88 family and friends present for the celebration. Everyone enjoyed looking at the display of old and new photos. Mrs. Bolt was surprised when the children presented her with a bag of money, 80 one dollar bills and a portrait painted by Ms. Cindy Southall taken from a photo when Flora was 15 or 16 years old. Thank you for a lovely party and day.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Betty) Noblin traveled to Chesapeake this past weekend to visit their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Dave (Paula) Noblin and Allie and Brady. They were able to witness Brady playing soccer.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Sadie) Kelsey motored to Troy, NC, to attend the marriage of Allen Speering last weekend. They were over night guest of the Rev. and Mrs. David (Gail) Speering.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Lois) Gager attended the annual class reunion of Fairfax High School held this year at Virginia Beach this past weekend.

Sean Stockton spent Monday afternoon with his grandparents, Richard and Margaret Stockton, later going to Merk's Place for supper.

Mrs. Hilda Allen attended the homecoming at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church in Prospect last Sunday.

Mrs. Frances Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Kin (Jeanette) Johnstone were among the many friends attending Mrs. Flora Bolt's birthday last Sunday.

Mrs. Peggy Kelsey, Mr. and Mrs. John Gager, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton were among the family and friends helping Mrs. Flora Bolt celebrate her birthday.

Emily Fulcher is a member of the Randolph-Henry JV volleyball team in Charlotte County. Mr. and Mrs. John (Shirley) Fulcher attended the game last week between Randolph-Henry and Prince Edward County JV's with Charlotte County girls coming out on top. Emily is a granddaughter of John and Shirley Fulcher.

Last Sunday Shirley and John Fulcher were birthday party hopping; they first attended the party for Mrs. Flora Bolt and later attended the party for Kenneth Toney at the Grove Street Park in Farmville.

Mrs. Flora Bolt visited Mrs. Edna Woodson at Trinity Missions on Friday. Mr. Woodson was also visiting his wife. Flora visited Mr. Walter Goin, his wife Lois was also visiting. Mrs. Jackie Smith also received a visit from Flora. Mrs. Smith was being transported to the Moore Center for some therapy following her fall and breaking her ankle in several places.

Mrs. Flora Bolt enjoyed the supper and gospel singing along with a large crowd on Friday evening at the home of Linda Troyer and Becky. It was a lovely evening as they listened to the gospel singing by Smokey Wilson. Mrs. Wilson sang a few hymns with her husband and two other people sang solos. Mrs. Bolt was surprised when they honored her by singing “Happy Birthday” for her 80th birthday. This is the fourth annual celebration sponsored by the ladies for family, friends and neighbors as they have food, fun and fellowship and witnessing to our Lord. Thanks to these ladies, who put a lot into this celebration all done for the glory of God.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Special prayers are needed for Barbara Metcalf, John Ray Wilkerson, Bobbie Leatherwood, Ray Kelsey, Mary Lula Allen and Mary Overton. Barbara Metcalf is at the Moore Center.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11a.m. R. Kemper Beasley III will fill the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Willie Thompson will be in the pulpit this Sunday.
