The Downtown Film Series will present “Raiders of the Lost Ark” Friday at dusk as this season’s final presentation of the Stars Under the Stars.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981, Rated PG) was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning in five categories. ‘Raiders’ is also included in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry.

Indiana Jones is a professor of archeology at Marshall College in 1936. When not teaching, he’s a fedora-wearing, whip-wielding adventurer in search of lost artifacts. Jones is approached by US intelligence agents who tell him they have intercepted a Nazi message. Indy deduces from the message that they are close to finding the legendary Ark of the Covenant, a biblical artifact which would make their armies unstoppable. So begins Indy’s globe-hopping adventure to find the Ark before the Nazis. Along the way he crosses paths and teams up with ex-girlfriend, Marion, and an old friend, Sallah.
