Ruth Hoffman, 51

RICHMOND, Sept. 23 – Ruth Beckley Hoffman, 51, of Richmond, daughter of William and Alice Sue Richardson Hoffman of Charlotte Court House, died Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Greensboro, NC, after a four month battle with CNS Lymphoma.

She grew up in Charlotte Court House, was graduated from Wellesley College in 1980 with a degree in medieval history. She earned a master's degree in accounting/computer science from VCU and received her CPA license. She began a 24-year career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond as a financial accountant.

Ms. Hoffman was a true intellect who read and traveled extensively. Her travels took her throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at Freedom House which serves the homeless. She was a devoted animal lover throughout her life. Her kind and gentle spirit is embodied in the verse, “Blessed are the meek,” Matthew 5:5.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, William Hoffman, and is survived by her mother, Alice Sue Richardson Hoffman of Charlotte Court House, and sister, Margaret Kay Huffman and husband, Neil, and nephews and niece, Hunter, Andrew, and Kathleen (“K.K.”) of Greensboro, NC.

A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 5 North Fifth Street, Richmond, on Friday, September 24, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the church's chapel.
