NEW CANTON, Sept. 14 – Acie Wingfield Thomas, 81, of New Canton, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010. He was born August 7, 1929 to the late Lottie A. and Stuart E. Thomas. He was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and the Stonewall Masonic Lodge #200.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion D. Thomas; three sons and their wives, Luther C. and Margaret W. Thomas, Shelton W. and Linda S. Thomas and Rex W. and Pamela C. Thomas; nine grandchildren, Patrick, Katie, Emily, Martha, Bennett, Caroline, Stacy, Chelsea and Garrett; three great-grandsons, Jack, Trey and Carter; two step great-grandchildren, Andrew and Maddie; brothers, Maynard, Bernard, Raymond, Julian and Linwood Thomas and sisters, Louise Dunkum and Shirley Wooten. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard Thomas, Horace Thomas and Ernest Thomas and a sister, Lillie Withers.

Funeral services were held at the Dunkum Funeral Home on Sunday with interment at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church cemetery.
