New Bridge Opens In Prince Edward

Residents of the Green Bay community of Prince Edward County celebrated the completion of the new bridge on Route 623 (Twin Bridges Road) along with county officials and representatives of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on July 2.  The $2.9 million contract was awarded in January of 2014 to Allegheny Construction Company of Roanoke for bridge replacement and the work was completed in June.  Pictured, from left, are Rebecca Randolph, Chelsie Townsend, Cheryl Tucker Townsend, Walter Blackwell (VDOT), Margaret Cullen, Preston Hunt, Marvin Goin of VDOT, Board of Supervisors Chairman Howard Simpson, Todd Bolling, VDOT project engineer, Sheriff Wesley Reed, Terry Meadows, VDOT project engineer, James Moore, Kevin Smith of VDOT, Leigh District Supervisor Jerry Townsend, Kevin Wright of VDOT, William Lee, and Eddie Stokes.
