PRINCE EDWARD — A 78-year-old Charlotte Court House woman died in a single-vehicle crash in Prince Edward County on Friday morning, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The crash occurred on Route 671 less than a mile north of Route 667 at 11:30 a.m., she said.

“A 1997 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling west on Route 671 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver, Jane B. Benbow, 78, of Charlotte Courthouse … died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt,” Geller said.

Geller said the cause remains under investigation.
